Rudranath Trek – A Hidden Gem in the Himalayas (5 Days Itinerary)

Rudranath is one of the five sacred temples of Lord Shiva, known as Panch Kedar, and perhaps the most mystical of all. Nestled deep in the Garhwal Himalayas, this offbeat destination offers a peaceful trekking experience through dense forests, alpine meadows, and stunning mountain views. The journey is not just spiritual – it’s a soulful adventure.


Day 1: Rishikesh to Sagar Village (Approx. 230 km / 8–9 hours)

Your journey begins from Rishikesh, passing through Devprayag, Rudraprayag, and Gopeshwar. By evening, reach Sagar Village, which is the base point for the Rudranath trek. Overnight stay at a guesthouse or homestay.


Day 2: Trek from Sagar to Panar Bugyal (Approx. 10–12 km trek)

Start your trek early in the morning from Sagar. The trail passes through thick forests, small streams, and peaceful nature. You’ll reach Panar Bugyal, a beautiful meadow surrounded by snow-covered peaks. Overnight stay in tents.


Day 3: Panar to Rudranath Temple (Approx. 8 km trek) and back to Panar

Begin your day with a gradual but steady trek towards Rudranath Temple. Located at around 11,800 feet, the temple appears almost magically in the midst of meadows and clouds. After darshan and some peaceful time at the temple, trek back to Panar for the night.


Day 4: Panar to Sagar (Return Trek) – and Drive to Gopeshwar

Trek back down to Sagar Village, enjoying the serene path once again. From there, drive to Gopeshwar and stay overnight. It’s a good place to rest and explore a bit of local culture and food.


Day 5: Gopeshwar to Rishikesh (Approx. 220 km / 8–9 hours)

Drive back to Rishikesh through the same scenic route, carrying with you the peace, silence, and divine experience of Rudranath.

May to June and September to October – when the weather is pleasant and the skies are mostly clear.

Rudranath is one of the Panch Kedar temples dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in Uttarakhand at an altitude of 3,600 meters. It is considered the toughest trek among the Panch Kedar temples.

The only way to reach Rudranath is by trekking. The nearest roadhead is Sagar village or Mandal village in Uttarakhand. Trek routes: Sagar → Rudranath (20 km trek) Mandal → Anusuya Devi → Rudranath (24 km trek) Urgam Valley → Kalpeshwar → Rudranath (45 km trek, difficult route)

Rudranath is one of the most challenging treks among the Panch Kedar temples. The trek involves steep climbs, rocky terrain, and dense forests. It is not recommended for beginners without prior trekking experience.
